NSAPI or CGI for PHP?
- NSAPI
- When you use PHP as NSAPI with Netscape Servers, PHP is an extension of your webserver
- Under WinNT with iPlanet webserver, when php crashes, the httpd server crashes
If your site is not using threadsafe scripts only, choose PHP as CGI if you want to give 24h/24h web service
If you only have php scripts that use threadsafe extension, you can use PHP as NSAPI : it is faster! (be careful, I experienced it with a bug in the upload function and it crashes my webserver)
- Under Unix,(I'm not sure), but you don't have the same problem of stability with NSAPI
- CGI
- CGI is stable
- If you don't need speed choose it (it simplier too to install!)
- Conclusion
- If you need speed choose PHP4
- If you need stability choose PHP3
- if you need both choose Unix
